Wayfairers Golf Society – Rules and Constitution

  1. The name of the Society is Wayfairers Golf Society.
  2. The address of the Society is: c/o Kenmore, Harwoods Lane, East Grinstead,
    RH19 4NQ.
  3. The aim of the Society is to provide Golf and other leisure activities for its members on a regular basis.
  4. The Officers of the Society shall be:- Secretary, Treasurer, Match Day Organiser.
  5. The Officers of the Society will form a Committee who are responsible for the running of the Society and whose decision will be final.
  6. The Officers will be elected at the Annual General Meeting.
  7. The Officers are empowered to co-opt a Replacement Officer if for any reason one is unable to continue during the year.
  8. The Society was originally formed on the 17th November 1995, previously named the Way-Fairers Golfing Society, but now called the Wayfairers Golf Society.
  9. The Society’s financial year will end on the 31st December. The Secretary will notify the members of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will take place by the end of April of each year, at a time and place decided by the Committee.  The Society accounts will be presented having been reviewed by an Independent Examiner.
  10. Membership, restricted to a total of 40 playing members, will be open to any individual chosen by the Committee who has attained the age of 18 years and submitted the membership fee to the Treasurer.  There will be no limit on Social membership.
  11. The Committee will have the sole discretion regarding the suitability of an individual for membership and their decision will be final.
  12. The annual membership fee will be £5 for a playing member and social non playing member.
  13. There will be no reduction of membership fee regardless of the date of joining.
  14. The Committee may terminate a membership where deemed appropriate and their decision will be final.  Members have a right of appeal if additional facts or information are forthcoming.
  15. The Committee will arrange golf competitions and notify the members by circulating a notice via email or on the website www.wayfairers.co.uk. The cost of entry will be determined by the Committee.
  16. Priority in the competitions will be given in the first instance to members who complete their application by the closing date and paid in full.  After this date guests and members will be accepted on a first come first served basis with a maximum playing number of 36.
  17. Guests of members will be allowed to take part in competitions, subject to Rule 17, but will not be permitted to take part in more than 2 competitions throughout the Society’s year. Guests who win a competition may not take a trophy but may win the other competition prizes.
  18. This constitution can only be amended by a majority vote at the AGM or any Special General Meeting decided upon by the Committee.  Members will be informed in writing at their last known address or via email, with each member having one vote which can only be by personal attendance at the meeting.
  19. The Society may be dissolved by Special or AGM in accordance with Rule 19.  A Special General Meeting will be arranged if 5 or more members request one by notifying the Secretary in writing.  All Society funds remaining on dissolution will be shared with a charity or charities chosen by the Committee at dissolution.  No funds shall be distributed to members in any form.
